It's been awhile since I plowed through a novel like I did this one. It has that peculiar, strange vibe of turn of the century New York City as a backdrop and a really fun (true crime!) mystery on top of it. I've read about the Roeblings, the Astor's, Olmstead, Tweed, and dabbled in Jacobs and Robert Moses, but never heard of Green let alone his murder. Really fun. It'll be a movie some day and I'll be glad I've read the book first. Jonathan Lee has given us another stunning work of great perception, humor, humanity, and heart.
